What our concrete crew builds in Kearney, NE

Advanced Kearney Concrete is a concrete contractor in Kearney, and the 16 services below cover most of what a house, farm or small business needs poured, raised or cut. Price mostly moves with size, thickness, how much digging and base work the ground needs, how easily the truck can reach the spot, and any color or stamping. The schedule turns on the weather and on curing, the days new concrete needs to harden before you use it. I come out, measure and put it all in a written estimate, so you see your own number before anything gets dug up.

  • Wide concrete driveway in front of a blue two-story house with stone accents and two white garage doors.

    Concrete driveway building

We build new concrete driveways on a dug-out, packed base and slope them so water runs to the street instead of toward your garage or house.

  • Concrete patio with broad scored slabs and three steps leading to a house door.

    Concrete patio construction

What keeps a patio flat for years? A packed base and a gentle slope away from the house, and that's what we build a backyard patio around.

  • Curving stamped-concrete walkway with irregular stone pattern, bordered by lawn and landscaped garden beds.

    Stamped concrete services

Stamped concrete is pressed with patterns and color while it's still wet, so a patio, walk or pool deck looks like stone or brick without the loose pieces.

  • Gray speckled concrete driveway with straight control joints leading to a white garage door.

    Concrete sidewalk building

We pour sidewalks and front walks for homes and businesses, with control joints, shallow grooves cut on purpose, so any cracking happens in a straight line we chose.

  • Stamped concrete patio beside a brick house, with a covered wooden pergola, seating, and a round stone fire pit.

    Garage floor concrete

A garage floor takes the weight of cars, jacks and whatever drips off the truck, so we pour it for the load and slope it toward the door.

  • Decorative concrete patio with large pale slabs separated by strips of grass beside a brick house.

    Decorative concrete

Decorative concrete covers color, exposed stone, scored patterns and other finishes for owners who want the slab to look like part of the place, not the ground under it.

  • Stamped concrete patio with a reddish irregular-stone pattern, wicker seating, and steps beneath a dark pergola.

    Concrete retaining walls

We build poured concrete retaining walls with steel inside and drainage behind them, for yards and lots where the ground needs holding back.

  • Smooth concrete floor with rectangular joints inside a large metal-framed industrial building.

    Concrete floor installation

Who needs a new concrete floor? Shops, barns, basements and storage buildings, and we pour them flat and level so shelves, equipment and doors sit right.

  • Rectangular swimming pool with a light concrete paver deck, four lounge chairs, and a broad lawn beside a house.

    Concrete pool decks

We pour concrete pool decks with a finish that grips wet feet and a slope that sends splash water away from the pool and the house.

  • Wide concrete entrance steps with stone-faced risers and built-in lights lead to a home's front door.

    Concrete steps construction

We build concrete steps for front doors, back doors and porches, with every step the same height so nobody catches a toe on the odd one.

  • Concrete pool deck with pale rectangular pavers and curved dark borders surrounding a round fire pit and striped lounge chairs.

    Slab foundation building

A slab foundation is one thick pad a house, garage or shop sits on, and we set the base, steel and forms before the truck shows up.

  • Decorative concrete driveway of large gray geometric slabs leading to a house garage beneath autumn trees.

    Foundation installation

We pour foundation walls for new homes, additions and outbuildings, laid out square and level, because every wall and roof line above them starts here.

  • Concrete retaining wall with broad gray steps connecting a lower lawn to an upper garden.

    Concrete parking lot building

Business owners call us for concrete parking lots that hold up to daily traffic and delivery trucks, poured thicker where the heavy loads go and sloped to drain.

  • Covered outdoor kitchen and patio with a stone island, built-in grill, brick walls, and cushioned seating.

    Concrete footings

Footings are the wide concrete strips under walls, posts and foundations that spread the weight into the ground, and we dig and pour them for homes, decks and barns.

  • Close-up of decorative stamped concrete in irregular rectangular shapes with mottled brown and copper tones.

    Foundation raising

Is a corner of your house or a slab sinking? We raise settled foundations and concrete back toward level, and tell you if the cause needs fixing first.

  • Landscaped backyard with broad concrete steps beside a raised terrace, glass railing, lawn, and dining set.

    Concrete cutting

Need a doorway, trench or drain line through existing concrete? We saw-cut it clean and straight, so the rest of the slab isn't busted up along with it.

What you get when we pour your concrete

Most of what makes concrete last is buried or decided before it sets. We'd rather get the base, the drainage and the timing right than put a pretty top on a bad start.

  1. The same person quotes and pours

I measure your job and write the estimate, then I'm on site working with our crew the day it's poured, so nothing you asked for gets lost between the quote and the work.

  2. An estimate you can compare

Your written estimate spells out the prep, the hauling and the mix we plan to use, so you can line it up against other quotes and see who left the base work out.

  3. Pour dates that follow the weather

We'd rather move a pour date than pour into bad conditions, because concrete only gets one shot at curing right. A rushed pour in midday heat can leave a weak, dusty top for years.

  4. Straight talk about new concrete

We tell you plainly what to expect, including that concrete cracks, and our control joints tell it where. That way the first winter and the first hairline crack don't catch you off guard.

How a concrete job runs with us

Here's what happens on your end, from the first call to the day you can use your new concrete.

  1. Call or send a request

Call (308) 371-8187 or send a request through the form and tell us roughly what you have in mind, like a new driveway, a shop floor or a patio that's sinking. We reply within one business day to set a time for me to come out and look.

  2. Site visit and written estimate

I come out, look at the site, measure and ask how you'll use it, because a patio for a grill and a pad for a grain truck aren't the same pour. You get a free written estimate with no pressure and no obligation, so take your time with it.

  3. Prep, pour and finish

Once you're ready, we set a date that suits the job and the weather. Then we dig out, pack the base, set the forms and steel, pour, finish the surface and cut the joints. I'm on the job with our crew, so the person you talked to is the one running it.

  4. Cleanup and care walkthrough

We clean up and haul off what we tore out or brought in. Before we leave, I walk you through caring for the new concrete, like when you can walk on it, when you can drive on it, and what to keep off it while it's still gaining strength.

Tell us about the concrete job you're planning

Send the form and we'll reply within one business day to set a time for me to come out. I measure, put the estimate in writing, and there's no pressure and no obligation to go ahead.

Kearney and the concrete work we see here

Kearney is home base, and you've probably walked plenty of concrete here without thinking about it. The city has more than 25 miles of community trails, 8-foot-wide concrete paths linking parks, neighborhoods, schools and stores, and Yanney Heritage Park draws people from across the region to its lake, gardens and tower. Most of what we pour here is closer to home, though. It's flatwork, the driveways, patios, walks and garage floors around people's houses, plus shop and farm slabs on the edges of the city.

If your job needs a permit or an inspection, the city's Development Services Department handles it, along with planning, zoning and code enforcement, all in one office. Its Building Services division enforces the building codes and inspects work against them. Before we start, we check with the building office on what your job needs, then take care of the paperwork when it falls to us or walk you through it when it falls to you.

Questions about concrete work in Kearney

Why do concrete quotes in Kearney vary so much?

Mostly because quotes don't all include the same work, and base prep is the easiest part to leave out. A cheaper number can skip digging out, packing the base or hauling the old slab away, and you won't see the difference until it settles. That's why our estimate lists those things.

Where should I save money on a new concrete driveway or patio?

Save on the finish, not the base. A plain broom finish, the light brushed texture that keeps tires and shoes from slipping, works fine on its own. A base that was only raked level instead of dug out and packed settles with the dirt, and the only fix is starting over.

How long until I can walk or drive on new concrete?

You can walk on it well before you can drive on it, and I give you the days for your slab and the weather when we pour. Concrete keeps curing, slowly gaining strength, long after it looks hard, and parking on it early is a good way to buy cracks.

Is Advanced Kearney Concrete licensed and insured?

Yes, we're licensed and insured. The City of Kearney also requires building contractors to register with its Building Services Division before they start work in the city, so it's a fair thing to ask any contractor you're comparing.

Do you tear out the old concrete before pouring a new driveway?

Yes, when the job calls for it, we break out the old slab, haul it off and dig down to firm subgrade, the packed ground the new slab sits on. Pouring over cracked, settled concrete just copies its problems. Not sure yours is worth saving? Send us a request and I'll take a look.

Do you guarantee your concrete work?

Yes, our work is satisfaction guaranteed. What nobody honest can promise is concrete that won't crack, because it shrinks as it cures. We cut control joints so cracks follow lines we chose, and we build the base so the slab has firm ground under it.

Does a concrete driveway need rebar?

It depends on the load and the ground, and I'll tell you what I'd use and why when I look at the job. Rebar is steel set inside the slab that holds the pieces tight if it cracks, so a crack stays a line instead of turning into a step.

Do Kearney building rules apply if I live just outside city limits?

They can. Proposed city ordinance text would apply the building codes to structures within two miles of Kearney's limits, and Buffalo County has its own plan for rural areas outside the city. So we check with the right office before we start, same as inside Kearney.
